Higher Education in Afghanistan

Higher Education in Afghanistan         Written by Misbah Abdulbaqi    Abstract [Historically, higher levels of learning did not receive due attention in Afghanistan, and while the institutions started taking roots in  second half of the 20 th century, their progress was badly hampered by foreign aggression as well as infighting. In recent years, there have been some efforts for improvement. However, higher education in present day Afghanistan remains a fragile area, hugely dependent upon foreign assistance, having meager resources and feeble infrastructure. Importantly, the system of higher education being promoted is not in conformity with the traditional and religious value system of the country.  Standard of education being imparted also remains very low. While long-term peace is a prerequisite, there is an urgent need to deliberate upon the system of education, particularly at higher levels, and the foundations upon wh...

Naval attack- JI believes facts being hidden from nation LAHORE(Pakistan): The Jamaat e Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said there were several contradictions in the statements made by the Interior Minister and the Pakistan Navy chief about the terrorist attack on the Mehran naval base, and facts were being hidden from the nation. In a statement here on Tuesday, he said the present situation had vindicated the JI stance that the participation in the US war would bring huge disaster and that the US was fighting a proxy war as its actual goal was to grab Pakistan’s nuclear assets. Syed Munawar Hasan pointed out that after the Naval attack, the number of terrorists was reported to be between 10 to 15 and the figure given in the FIR was 12. Image
Islamabad: Pakistan seems to be in a situation which may be best described."Between the deep sea and devil" but due to its strategic location it still have a lot of cards to play.Iran is ready to solve energy needs of Pakistan and Pakistan may ignore US concerns in this regard if it is pushed to the wall. China may also like to help Pakistan economically and also its defence needs as China may feel threatened if American and Indian influence increases in this region.China knows that there are clear signs that it is being encircled. The most dangerous option with Pakistan is "Nuclear option" and perhaps it may not hesitate to use this option if there is threat to its very existenceThe only thing Pakistan needs is bold leadership and present leadership do not respond to the needs of the hour,it is more likely that this leadership will be replaced with a more hardline leadership which may opt out of Alliance against so called war against terrorism and revisit pakistan...
